As a goalie myself, I know how important it is to have the right gear when you’re playing in net. I’ve always been the goalie who loved the newest equipment and always stayed on top of the latest trends. I would usually follow the trends of the pro goalies and then wait for Christmas! In this article I’ll share some of the different options available for a goalie gloves today.

The first thing you should do is determine the purpose of the gloves. Do you want them for training purposes, for bad weather, for games only or do you need some sort of extra protection? Also figure out your budget and I always recommend figuring out your size if you can find a local soccer shop not too far away.

There are several brands I always go with when choosing my personal goalie gloves. My number one choice has always been Uhlsport. I haven’t used this brand for anything besides gloves, but they make a super high-end goalie glove. Their top of the line glove is called the Uhlsport Cerberus Bionik Goalkeeper Glove, which is meant specifically for match play.

The Uhlsport goalie glove is made with their patented grip foam. It’s extremely durable, yet it remains soft and thick. It provides great protection for the fingers as well as it’s designed to imitate the human hand, which is supported by flexible spines. These Uhlsport goalie gloves are pricey, but they’re the best it gets. They can be purchased at soccer.com for $169.99. If you’re only using them during match play, they could easily last you a couple of seasons.

The next option is a more affordable pair made by Reusch. This is another brand that specialize in soccer goalie gear. The goalie gloves are called the Reusch Raptor R1 Ortho-Tec Glove and are great on hard ground and indoor surfaces. It’s made with a thick foam and also has a soft latex backhand. This includes the finger spines to protect from any injuries to your fingers as well.

These gloves by Reusch are great for match play and can also be used in high level training sessions. They can be purchased at Soccer.com for $99.00 and if this is affordable for you, it’s one of the best buys on the market. I’ve used this pair before and really enjoyed playing with them and they get great reviews as well.

As you get under $100 for goalie gloves, there will definitely be a few noticeable differences. The overall support quality decreases, so the cushion and foam won’t be as thick. Since they’re not as thick, they won’t last as long. You may also lose the support in the fingers, with spine protectors behind each finger. So I always recommend spend a little extra on a great pair of game gloves!
