How To Choose Ice Hockey Sticks Plus Other Hockey Equipment?

February 8th, 2010 Sport Journalist

Even if you are used to playing sports there are still those that you would have to buy different equipment for such as ice hockey, football, tennis etc. The purpose of buying these equipments is of course for the participants to be able to play the sport with ease. They need these to play better as well.

Aside from allowing them to properly play the sport, hockey equipment ? well, the right kind, also ensures each player’s safety during the game given that hockey is a rough contact sport. But first things first, what are the different hockey gear and equipment that you must take note of?

As there are several types of hockey equipment and hockey gear available, you need to make sure that you choose the right ones for you starting from the ice hockey sticks down to the hockey skates ? of course, depending on which kind of hockey game you are interested in playing. Aside from the actual design of the hockey equipment, you should also make sure that it is made of good quality and fits you just right.

So what are the things that you should take note of when choosing your hockey gear? Well for starters you have to check for the quality of your hockey gear. It is very important that your hockey gear is durable so that you won’t encounter any accidents during your hockey game. You should also try out the equipment; of course its performance must be tested so that you’ll be sure that your poor equipment will cost you your game. The actual style and design of the gear is the last thing that you should check as functionality should always be your top priority especially when it comes to ice hockey sticks.

So what exactly are the different types of ice hockey sticks available in the market today? There are sticks made from wood, different composites such as fiberglass, aluminum, graphite, Kevlar, and titanium.

Since wood is the simplest out of these materials, it also follows that wooden hockey sticks are the most affordable. Still, in spite of being considered as cheap, there are actually some perks that comes with this type of hockey stick, like the fact that it can be easily modified to suit the player’s style and specifications.

As for the composite brand of ice hockey sticks, these are actually the ones being used by NHL players these days. These usually come in either one-piece or two-piece sticks that already come with a shaft as well as replaceable blades. These are much lighter and flexible compared to the wooden type of sticks however, these special features come with a hefty price tag. Still, being expensive does not also guarantee that the composite brand of hockey stick will not break ? in time, like the wooden ones.

If you want your hockey stick to fit you just right, then you can check out those companies who are manufacturing hockey gear as there are some who can customize a hockey stick especially for you.

Getting the right flex and length are two of the more important concerns when it comes to your hockey stick shaft. The overall weight of the hockey stick is another important concern that the shaft will impact.
